On Wednesday 20 May 2026, Alhaji AbdulHameed Femi Omotayo emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District, with the support of delegates from all nine local governments in the district.

He is not a career politician, and he has never held elective office. He spent more than thirty years in the Oil and Gas sector, building enterprises and creating livelihoods, and he is known across Ijebu-land as Omo Owo, Son of the People.

"I come to this race without the baggage of broken promises," he told party members after the result, "because I have never made political promises before. Everything I put in writing is a commitment I will be held to."

The general election is on 16 January 2027. Between now and then the campaign has committed to visiting every ward in the district, and to publishing a manifesto that states what a senator can actually deliver through legislation, appropriation, and oversight.
